Sunday

Bethany and Izzy slept over last night so I woke up and hung out with them, then watched a little bit of a TV show in the basement with them to try to avoid waking up Eric, Mark, and John.
John woke up, so I nursed him down there, then we all 4 came upstairs for breakfast, which 3 of us ate (one of us was too busy to eat breakfast).
After that we just played until John and Becca got here.
I made eggs, sausage, and toast for the grown-up breakfast :)
Dressed John and put him down for a nap
Showered
Church at 11
Lunch at Zoups
Drove out to the Conference Grounds for Sunday coffee with the whole Dornbush side of the family and birthday celebrations.
I was pretty tired, so I napped from 4-6
Supper, convo, games
Drive back to GR and put John to bed
I started to unload some of the stuff that has accumulated over the past week of not really being home, but got overwhelmed, sat down on the couch, and still haven't moved. I might do so just so that I can make it to my comfy bed instead of waking up halfway through the night with a sore neck.
Whew... back to our normal lives.

Tomorrow I clean!

2013.04.26

I woke up feeling much better this morning.
My morning was spent packing up all of our stuff to get ready to return to Grand Rapids.
Mark came with us to flee the sickness (John and Beckah were still not feeling so hot).
I dropped Mark off at home.
I went to pick up Eric's tux and waited for about half an hour because the guy that had my ticket got distracted helping another customer.
I brought Eric's tux to Kuyper for him to try on.
I realized how exhausted, overworked, and busy he was, so I helped out where I could (vacuuming the dining hall while John rode on the vacuum).
I drove home, changed, picked up Mark, and drove to Zeeland for the rehearsal.
I rehearsed (really an unnecessary part of this process).
I rehearsal dined (my stomach is not totally back where it should be after being sick).
I drove back to Grand Rapids and put my baby to bed.
I am now exhausted and am planning to go to bed.
Goodnight.

2013.04.25

Sick day....
I woke up feeling pretty nasty, got out of bed, and threw up.
I soon discovered that my precious baby boy had spread his sick germs to nearly everyone in the Roosma family.
Bethany, Izzy, John, Mom, Eric, Becca, and I were all sick.
Mark isolated himself all day.
Julia and Brad fled back to Jenison the first chance they got.
Dad must have the immune system of a walnut.
So, instead of walking down by the lake and going with the girls to get pedicures, today I hurled up everything I ate yesterday and tried to sleep while taking care of my child.
Not so fun.

On a positive note, I mainly felt better by the evening!

2013.04.24

This morning I hung out with John, made/ate breakfast, and packed up all the stuff we need for our week out at the CRC Conference Grounds with the Roosma family. My sick pukey baby from yesterday is much more himself these days.
Once John woke up from his nap, John, Uncle Mark, and I drove out to Grand Haven for an afternoon of food, games, and fun. John played on the giant playground with Bethany and Isabelle . He had a blast climbing up the stairs and going down the slide with me. He also loved sitting in the big car that bounced when he wiggled and "knocking me over" on the swings.
We got to eat dinner with the whole Roosma family (tacos, my favorite).
He was a little intimidated to take a bath with the girls, but loved standing by the edge watching them play.
Once he went to bed, we got to play games, hang out, and tell stories.

Heard from Uncle Mark to 3-year-old Bethany while she was cheating at playing Candyland: "Bethany you're going to have to learn that rules are the social norms that hold the world together. Also, this is a game of luck."

2013.04.23

I subbed at the Potter's House for second grade today: best age ever!
Then we went out to Grand Haven to hang out with the Roosma family. So much fun!
After that Eric dropped me off at home and went to pick up Mark from the airport.
In about half an hour I:
1. put John to bed
2. put sheets, a fan, clock, and lamp in the guest room
3. straightened the living room
4. washed a load of laundry
5. folded a load of laundry
6. unloaded the dishwasher
7. cleaned the kitchen

2013.04.22

I usually don't write what I do on Saturday, but I had a pretty productive one.
1. rearranged the living room.
2. put a "fake bottom" in the toy chest to put the toys that are too small for John underneath and so that he can reach all of the toys above it.
3. washed, dried, and folded three loads of laundry.
4. cleaned the kitchen.
5. figured out a bunch of stuff on my iPad.

Today I:
1. made oatmeal for breakfast
2. baked really healthy and pretty good tasting cookies
3. cleared the mess off our kitchen table
4. cleaned the kitchen
5. went for a walk with Sam and John in the beautiful weather
6. made chicken rice casserole for supper
7. watching a movie with Eric!

Here's the recipe for the cookies:

Ingredients:
2 Ripe Bananas, Mashed
1/3 C. Reduced Fat Peanut Butter
2/3 C. Unsweetened Applesauce
1 Tsp. Vanilla
1/2 Tsp. Salt
1/2 Tsp. Cinnamon
Dash of Ground Cloves
Dash of Ground Nutmeg
1 1/2 C. Quick or Old Fashioned Oats
1/4 C. Nuts (I used dry unsalted peanuts.)
1/4 C. Semi Sweet Chocolate Chips
1/4 C. Reduced Fat Unsweetened Shredded Coconut (Optional)

Directions:
Preheat the oven to 350 degrees F. Line a baking sheet with parchment paper and set aside. Mix together the bananas, peanut butter, applesauce, vanilla, and spices. Add in the oats, nuts, chocolate chips, and coconut; stir until well combined.

Spoon a rounded 2 tbsp. of the cookie mixture onto the lined baking sheet, leaving an inch or two between each and flatten slightly. I placed a few more chocolate chips on top of each cookie. Bake for 20-30 minutes and allow to cool slightly.

2013.04.19

I taught again today!

This whole getting up on time thing is rough; I can't believe I used to do it every day.
After picking up John I came home to an empty house because Eric is gone for the weekend. I made soup for supper, gave John a bath, played with him, put him to bed, and watched a movie.
Not much productivity this evening, but I worked a full day!

2013.04.18

I subbed at The Potter's House today!

I woke up to an alarm clock for the first time in more than a month.
Showered, nursed John.
Started to make Oatmeal, then went to get dressed. Yup, I forgot about the oatmeal. Eric saved it before the whole pot burned, but there was only enough salvageable for John's breakfast, not for me.
I taught Preschooler's today. They take a lot of energy! I wished I had breakfast.
Two different groups (one in the morning and one in the afternoon) and I memorized all of their names by the end of the day! I'll have a whole different group tomorrow.

After school I went over to Franny's to hang out (she was watching John for me).
Then went home and hung out while Eric got ready to go to the Gala. I only saw him for half an hour; sad day. Then I just hung out with John and tried to relax because my legs were very tired.
After he went to bed, I packed his lunch for tomorrow and then went to bed.

I love teaching. It's great. I'm tired.

2013.04.17

Wednesday.

Moved our bed and boxspring out of our room and into the guest room.
Mopped the bedroom and kitchen floors.
Got our new bed! Set in up with Eric.
Took John to the doctor and had to deal with the after effects of  a shot... cranky, tired, feverish but wouldn't sleep.
Lined up a babysitter so I can sub tomorrow.
Packed a lunch for my baby boy. That felt weird.
I don't know what else I did. I'm sure we ate, so I must have cooked...

2013.04.16

Tuesday

I finished almost all of my yesterday projects!
Moved futon frame out of guest room.
Moved coffee/end table to man cave.
Moved box shelf from man cave to guest room.
Moved table from man cave to laundry area.
Went to the chiropractor for the first time in years.
Visited the hubby at work.

I also cleaned, cooked, and did some laundry.

2013.04.15

Is it really Monday again?
Today I:

Swept the deck and played outside with my kiddo
Backed up a bunch of pictures
Cleaned, vaccumed, dusted, and rearranged the livingroom. (including couch, 3 end tables, bookshelf, tent, lazy boy, and toy chest)
Oraganized/untangled a bunch of cords that are all plugged in to our wifi, pogo-plug, harddrive, stereo, etc. Now there are much fewer chords hanging out for a child to pull.
Chopped some fresh fruit (berries, melon) for snacks
Cleaned the kitchen
Rearranged the guest room so it actually looks like a usable room! This included: moving three fully loaded bookshelves, a filing cabinet, a nightstand, a futon mattress, and mopping the floor.
Folded two loads of laundry from the weekend.
Grilled onions and brats for dinner

Still to do from todays projects: move futon frame to basement. Move bed into guest room. Move coffee/end table to man cave. Move box shelf from man cave to guest room. Move table from man cave to laundry area. Organize all of the books on the 3 fully loaded bookshelves in guest room.

2013.04.12

Today I:

Showered (I know it seems silly to mention this on a daily basis, but it is one of the few moments I have alone on a daily basis, so it is significant enough to me for me to mention it)
Read two chapters of a book while John played
Went over to Franny's to hang out
Went to a thrift store and got some great things including:
  1. Some cool foam/fabric castle blocks
  2. A step stool for John to climb on
  3. Some nice black dress shoes
  4. A discovery tent!
  5. A new shelf/cabinet to protect our wireless router and books from our child
Swept the guest room
Rearranged the guest room (moved a file cabinet, 3 bookshelves, and a nightstand) to get ready to move an actual bed in there!
Carried in the shelf/cabinet with Eric
Reorganized most of the stuff in it (the rest can be done tomorrow)

2013.04.11

Thursday:
Primed the edges of the closet in the basement room
Washed, dried, folded, AND put away three loads of laundry
Watched a movie while I did laundry
Hung out with my kiddo
Made Oatmeal for breakfast and ate leftover chicken rice casserole for lunch
Started organizing the basement
Loaded pictures from our camera onto my computer. Updated my "What I do" blog posts since March 20 with pictures, you should look back at some of them; they're fun!
Swept the kitchen and dining room floor
Got my photo scanner in the mail!
Went with Eric and John to help Julia move most of her stuff over to Brad's house before their wedding (less than 2 weeks away). Ate pizza with them for supper.

2013.04.10

Today I was much more productive than the past few days. Crazy how a cranky vs. happy baby can make a world of difference. Today I:

1. Made taco style chicken in the crock-pot.
2. Hung out with my happy baby!
3. Started organizing some stuff in the basement.
4. Cleaned the living room.
5. Made Salsa
6. Made Guacomole
7. Cleaned the whole kitchen
8. Had a friend over for dinner
9. Made dump cake
10. Cleaned the whole kitchen again
11. Loaded and organized pictures onto my computer

Recipes from today:

Dump Cake:
Ingredients:
1 can cherry pie filling
1 can crushed pinapple
1 box yellow cake mix
1/2 stick of butter.

Directions:
Dump fruit into baking dish. Dump/sprinkle cake mix on top (do NOT mix together). Melt butter and drizzle over everything. Bake at 350 for about half an hour or until fruit is bubbly.

Crock-Pot Chicken Tacos:
Ingredients:
6-8 Chicken Breasts
1 jar Salsa
1 packet of taco seasoning
OPTIONAL: cilantro, lime, other veggies

Directions:
Dump everything into the crock pot. Cook on low 6-8 hours or high 4-6 hours. Shred chicken.
Serve on tortillas with other taco toppings (shredded cheese, sour cream, salsa, guac, etc.)

Guacamole:
Ingredients:
2 ripe avacados
Some chopped tomato and onion
Spices (garlic, onion powder, salt, spicy pepper, etc.)
Lime (or just lime juice)

Directions:
Cut avacado in half, remove pit. Scoop out flesh into container. Add tomato, onion, lime juice and spices to taste. Smash and mix everything. Serve with tortilla chips!

Pico de Gallo Salsa:
Ingredients:
1/2 an onion
4 roma tomatoes
2 jalepeno peppers
2 garlic gloves
1/2 bunch of Cilantro
Lime

Directions:
Dice tomato.
Chop onion.
Mince garlic.
Cut jalepeno, remove seeds, chop (if you want more spice, leave some seeds or add more jalepenos).
Pick off cilantro leaves. Chop them too!
Squeeze in lime juice.

Mix all ingredients together.
Enjoy with tortilla chips or on tacos!

2013.04.09

1. Stayed up/tried to sleep with John from 1am until the rest of the night. Teething is no fun.
2. Sort-of slept for an hour from 7-8am while Eric got ready and watched John then gave him cheerios to keep him occupied.
3. Woke up to find Cheerios all over the bedroom floor and a baby pulling the blankets off my bed in an attempt to pull himself up onto the bed.
4. Breakfast was canned pears and cheerios.
5. Tried to take a nap at 9:30am when John took a nap. That lasted less than 20 minutes.
6. Showered with the door closed. John was trying to pull himself onto my bed again when I got out. He probably thought I was taking a nap.
7. Went to the Notary Public to get my Teaching certificate notarized.
8. Ate lunch with Eric at Kuyper College.
9. Went to the bank to close an account that has been nothing but frustration the past few months.
10. Met with Andrew at Kuyper's Writing Center to talk about their plans for next year.
11. Went to our other bank to deposit the money from the now closed account.
12. Stopped at church.
13. Went home.
14. Made chicken-rice casserole
15. Sort-of cleaned the kitchen.

Two things made John happy today:

1. Reading with Daddy

2. Looking out the window.

2013.04.08

Monday. Yucky Monday.

I met the crankiest baby in the world today. He took over the body of my sweet happy little boy. John was teething today, which meant anything and everything that I got done had to be done while holding him over my shoulder or listening to him scream in pain. Even with that today I:

1. Washed and dried one load of laundry (no folding or putting it away)
2. Grocery shopped (why listen to him scream alone when I can torture a whole store full of people?)
3. Made TWO Spaghetti Casseroles, one for me, one for our friends who just had a baby.
4. Ordered a $115 photo scanner from Amazon on sale for $28. Found out I had "Amazon points" saved up, so I got it for free!
5. Mostly cleaned the kitchen. Eric helped with that a lot.
6. Brought dinner to our friends in Holland and met their new baby girl.
7. Danced around the house to "Toddler Pandora" hoping that it would cheer John up. It didn't work to cheer him up, but I think it might have helped me to cheer up a bit. Disney songs and children's rhymes are good for ones soul.

I caught a step on camera!!!! Also, John did not want any clothes on, but was fine with my hat....
